exile from eden brings together sculptures and installations that evoke barriers—flesh, fences, chains—which dictate the movement of bodies through natural and artificial ecosystems. Gesturing to the mutability and resilience of the body, the works examine the scars left on the flesh and the psyche through experiences of escape and exile. The title alludes to Lilith, the Biblical figure said to be the first wife of Adam, whom he cast out of the Garden of Eden for her refusal to be subservient. Through an exploration of the limitations of corporeal existence, exile from eden foregrounds the body as a nexus of pleasure and pain.
